FDA staff questions Clovis drug’s efficacy over current treatments

(Reuters) – Staff reviewers from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Friday questioned if Clovis Oncology Inc’s lung cancer drug was more effective than available treatments. The reviewers also recommended including a black box warning, the FDA’s strictest warning, in the drug’s label. Companies struggle to get new medicines adopted across Europe

By Ben Hirschler LONDON (Reuters) – Pharmaceutical companies, currently enjoying a bumper wave of new drug launches, are struggling to get recently introduced products adopted in key European markets as governments bear down on costs. While a number countries have pledged in recent years to encourage the use of innovative medicines, Europe remains a much tougher market than the United States, prompting many companies to offer significant price discounts.

Novartis to start human tests with Google lens in 2016

Novartis plans the first human tests next year of a “smart” contact lens it is developing with Google designed to help restore the eye's natural autofocus. “This project is progressing well,” Novartis Chief Executive Joe Jimenez told Swiss newspaper Le Temps in an interview. “I had said it would take about five years to see a product on the market,” Jimenez told the paper.
