Foot Care Tips For Diabetic Patients

If there is anything that diabetics should watch out for on a daily basis, it is their feet.  Because ones hurt can lead to infection; and they do not heal so easily.  In some cases, the leg has to be amputated due to neglect.

If you are a diabetic, you might want to look at this list of tips on how to take care for your feet.

Tip #1: Wash the feet and dry them well on a daily basis not forgetting to inspect the spaces between your toes. Another must-do should be the daily inspection of your feet for any possible cuts, bruises, blisters, redness, swelling, and color changes.

Tip #2: When it comes to wearing shoes and socks, always ensure that they give your feet enough room for movement. In addition, always ensure that you check your shoes for any foreign objects such as sand as they might cause sores that will result to the proverbial infection.

Tip #3: Since decreased circulation is a problem with most diabetics especially in regard to their feet, you should begin a regular exercise routine in order to increase circulation.

Tip #4: Avoid treating yourself in the cases of calluses, corns, and ingrown toenails. Always consult your personal doctor.

Tip #5: If you have dry skin, then be sure to add either cream or petroleum jelly to your feet avoiding the region between your toes as this might cause an infection as well.
