What is reflexology

Reflexology is a practice that has been in use for centuries and gaining popularity now. It is a massage technique that applies pressure on different parts of the feet, hands, legs and head to stimulate blood flow which will improve the function of the major organs. It treats the body as a whole looking in to the physical, mental and spiritual aspects.

It is based on the principle that there are energy zones running throughout the body. The practice dates far back as 2500 BC where it was practiced in Egypt, India, China and Japan where feet were massaged for better health.

It was introduced to the west in the early twentieth century by Dr. William Fitzgerald who discovered that there is a correspondence between parts of the body. It was later discovered that the most responsive part of the body were the feet.

Reflexology helps to reduce stress, stimulate the nervous system, provide pain relief and detoxifies the body. It can also correct hormonal imbalances and aids people suffering from respiratory tract ailments.

A common after effect of reflexology is increased bowel movements and mild cold like symptoms which occur as the body rids itself of toxins.
